NC Community,

These are unsettling and uncertain times we find ourselves in. NCMERA wishes each one of you wellness and good health. May you have the resources you need to provide for yourself, your family, and your community.

It is with a sad heart that we have made the decision to postpone the NC Walk for Midwives, which was set for the first weekend in May in honor of International Day of the Midwife. We look forward to the day when we can once again gather and hug and show our support for one another.

Never forget, we are descendants of wise women, healers, and midwives who have endured despite the challenges since the beginning of time. We are resilient!

International Day of the Midwife May 5

May 5th is International Day of the Midwife. This year is especially exciting as the World Health Assembly, of the World Health Organization, has declared 2020 the Year of the Nurse & Midwife!

NCMERA is thrilled to host our annual, statewide, fundraising event- the NC Walk for Midwives, in honor of the nurses, midwives, and community health & birth workers, that have paved the way to better health outcomes for NC mothers and babies.

We stand firm in our commitment to work towards the integration of all midwives into the NC healthcare system, and to increasing access to quality maternity care for all NC families. Won’t you join us?

In 2019, the NC Walk for Midwives Fund-raised $7,000!

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and families, we were able to hold the first ever NC Community Birth Summit!

The success of the summit is evident in the work and projects that have come out of the collaborative relationships forged during the event.

The NC Community Birth Summit

NCMERA is continuing to work hard to carry forward the systems map that began at the summit, to communities across the state to add perspectives and broaden the scope and depth of the map. This map will be utilized as a communication tool, offering unique opportunities to connect, listen, and be heard, for all stakeholders in the NC perinatal healthcare system- most importantly the women and families across our state!
